HAND MADE INSTRUMENTS
While I am passionate about restoration and repair work, I am most inspired by making new instruments. Whether I am developing a new model, selecting wood or making the first cuts, I get excited about the potential of my new creation like a kid at Christmas. Then, when progress has been made and I have to make some decisions like how the arching should look or how thick to leave the plates, I worry and fret like a parent on the first day of school. When the varnish is dry and polished, the bridge is cut, the set up complete and I can hear the creation that I have been laboring over for months and months, the feeling of satisfaction is something for which I have no comparison. It is when one of my instruments finds a home with a musician who will use it to make beautiful art that I feel joy like a parent watching their child graduate.
